Insider reports indicate that President Uhuru Kenyatta snubbed a McDonald Mariga’s party that was organised by Deputy President Wlliam Ruto on Monday, September 9.

It is believed that to preserve the handshake, President Uhuru did not want to field a candidate for Kibera by elections but the DP’s insisted that Jubilee fields a candidate.

According to a source by the Daily Nation, DP William Ruto allegedly resorted to the move “in a bid to scuttle the handshake between the president and ODM leader, Raila Odinga.”

DP Ruto is further said to have tried to reach out to President Uhuru Kenyatta to preside over the issuance of Jubilee Party’s certificate to Mariga but the president ignored his requests.

Following the move by the president to ignore his requests, DP Ruto, decided to have the event postponed.

“I have no communication from the president whether he will present the certificate or campaign for our candidate but we have been in touch with the deputy,” said Jubilee’s party secretary Raphael Tuju.

The move by DP Ruto to field a candidate in Kibera by elections has attracted criticism from Jubilee MPs who now claim that the DP is undermining the president and former prime minister.

“The deputy president is not happy with the peaceful environment that the handshake has brought to this country.

“He does not care about Nairobi people and how they have fought one another for a long time because he does not have his people in Nairobi. Our DP doesn’t care,” claimed Nominated MP Maina Kamanda.
