Embattled Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru has revealed that pushers for the motion to impeach her will suffer dire consequences.
While reacting to the motion presented at the Kirinyaga County Assembly on Tuesday, Waiguru stated that the basis for her impeachment is baseless, waste of valuable time and resources with the sole intent to bully her to achieve personalized political objectives.
“As I have stated before the issues raised in the motion are baseless and a waste of valuable time that would be better spent handling the serious issues impacting the county, including the Corona crisis. Their intent is merely to bully me to achieve nefarious and personalized political objectives,” Waiguru said in a press statement.
This comes after reports emerged that some Members County Assembly in Kirinyaga County spent their night at the Assembly as they prepared to debate an impeachment motion against Governor Waiguru.
The MCAs, who claim to be the majority, trooped to the County Assembly premises on Monday night as they sharpened their tools to tackle the ouster motion against Waiguru.
The former Devolution CS decried the move by the assembly to proceed with the impeachment debate despite having a court order declaring the motion illegal for the time being.
“On the basis of the above and other factors, I sought and obtained clear and unequivocal Court Order from the High Court stopping any proceedings by the Assembly on the impeachment motion until the numerous issues that we raised with the court were determined. These matters remain undetermined and the injunction remains in place,” she added.
Waiguru further suggested that a third party outside the assembly could be behind her impeachment who believes is above the law.
“Their allegiance seems to be a master pulling and pushing the levers from outside the assembly and the the rule of law,” Waiguru asserted.
She reiterated that she would not be bullied and warned that should the assembly proceed with violating the court orders, she would seek such orders for contempt against the speaker and all participating members as available under the law.
