The president has banned foreign nationals from adopting children with immediate effect.

Through a special cabinet meeting held at State House, Nairobi, the president together with his deputy instructed the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection to come draft a policy that will regulate child adoption by foreigners.

The president also ordered an immediate streamlining of Child Welfare Society of Kenya operations and the operations of children homes in the country.

During the meeting, the cabinet approved a Ksh 6.9 billion budged for the development of an Inland Container Depot.

The budget is also intended to cater for the Railway Marshalling Yard, Logistics Zone and Public Utility Area as well as other core enabling infrastructure to support the development of the Naivasha Special Economic Zone.

Completion of phase 2A of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) phase 2A was also mentioned as part of the expense.

During the cabinet meeting, the hosting of the upcoming Nairobi Summit of the 25th International Conference on Population and Development that will take place between 12th and 14th November 2019 was also approved.

Through the summit, the cabinet hopes to project a positive image and thus solidify the country’s position as an ideal conference and aviation hub.
