Gachagua’s Men Demands ‘Abduction Action’: Calls for Public Inquiry into Mysterious Disappearances

0

A group of leaders allied with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on President William Ruto to establish an independent commission of inquiry to investigate a spate of mysterious abductions in Kenya. The allies claim these incidents target critics of the government, raising serious concerns about the politicization of security forces and the erosion of civil liberties.

Concerns Raised by Gachagua Allies

  1. Systematic Abductions
The group alleges that a series of abductions has disproportionately affected individuals who have expressed dissent against the current administration. They argue that these incidents are part of a broader strategy to silence opposing voices and intimidate political opponents.
  2. Politicized Security Forces
The allies point to growing concerns that Kenya’s security agencies are being weaponized to suppress dissent. They claim the police and other independent institutions are increasingly influenced by political agendas, further escalating tensions in the country.
  3. Violent Attacks Against Supporters
Referencing incidents in Limuru and Nyandarua, Gachagua’s allies highlight organized attacks targeting his supporters. They have called for thorough investigations into these violent events, which they believe are part of the same campaign of political persecution.

Key Demands

The leaders have outlined three specific demands to address the crisis:

  1. Independent Commission of Inquiry
They are urging President Ruto to set up an independent body to investigate the abductions and assess the extent of political interference in the nation’s security forces.
  2. Release of Abductees
The group has demanded the immediate release of all individuals who have been abducted, arguing that their continued detention without due process undermines the rule of law.
  3. Parliamentary and County Assembly Action
The group has called on the National Assembly, Senate, and County Assemblies to convene special sessions to investigate the matter and provide solutions to safeguard civil liberties.

A Call to Restore Justice and Security

Speaking on behalf of the group, several lawmakers stressed that these abductions represent a troubling trend that threatens Kenya’s democracy. They described the incidents as a clear violation of constitutional rights and emphasized the need for urgent action to restore justice and protect citizens from further harm.

“The use of fear and intimidation to silence critics has no place in our democracy. We demand transparency, accountability, and swift intervention to end these human rights violations,” said one ally of Gachagua.

As the January 19 deadline for a possible strike by clinical officers over related governance concerns looms, the pressure mounts on the government to respond decisively to this growing unrest. For now, the allies of Gachagua vow to keep pressing for answers until justice is served.
