DP Ruto’s Close Ally Rejects Senates New Role

Samson Cherargei , Nandi County Senator, was replaced as the chairperson of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee and Devolution Committee.

He was however offered to be a member of the Powers and Privileges committee.

Speaking to Wahiga Mwaura on Citizen TV on Tuesday evening, Cherargei announced that he will be writing a letter to the Majority Chief Whip, Irungu Kang’ata rejecting the new post.

“Senator Samson Cherargei: I reject in totality being made a member of the Powers and Privileges committee. I am not interested… These are things being done to us by those who find it convenient.”

Cherargei is among six other senators who opposed the impeachment of Kithure Kindiki as the Deputy Speaker of the Senate, although the motion was successful after getting massive support from 54 senators from both the Jubilee Party and National Super Alliance, NASA.

The axed members of the senate are alleged to be close allies of Deputy President, William Ruto. Among others who lost their positions were;

Christopher Lang’at the Bomet Senator who chaired both the Education Committee and the Senate Business Committee.

Mithika Linturi, Meru Senator ceased to be a member of the powerful Senate County Public Accounts and Investment Committee.

Senator Kinyua also ceased to be the Chairman of Devolution Committee and was moved to ICT Commitee that was left vacant by West Pokot Senator, Samuel Poghisio who was named as the party’s Majority Leader after Kipchumba Murkomen was axed.

Since the changes in the party started to take place, President Uhuru Kenyatta who is the party leader and Deputy President William Ruto have never addressed the matter publicly.
