Cash Bonanza: Government Rolls Out Ksh3.5 Billion to Inua Jamii Beneficiaries

The Kenyan government has disbursed Ksh3.5 billion to 1,758,735 beneficiaries under the Inua Jamii program, providing financial support to the elderly, orphans, and persons with disabilities.

Payments commenced on January 7, 2025, with a pilot initiative in Murang’a and Marsabit counties, where beneficiaries receive funds directly to their mobile money accounts via the e-Citizen platform. This system aims to enhance efficiency and will expand to all 45 counties in the upcoming payment cycle.

Inua Jamii, a government cash transfer program, offers monthly stipends of Ksh2,000 to support vulnerable populations, mitigating poverty and hunger. The recent disbursement reflects the government’s commitment to social protection and improving the livelihoods of its citizens.

This development follows a December 2024 High Court suspension of President Ruto’s directive for 34 parastatal chiefs to onboard services onto the e-Citizen platform, pending further legal review.

The government’s ongoing efforts to streamline payment processes demonstrate a dedication to ensuring timely and accessible support for those in need.
