A 30 year old man from a village in Kakamega East is in the run after he hacked his father to death following a disagreement they had over a meal of ugali.
In an incident that has left many villagers shocked, it is said that the suspect attacked his 80 year old father over a plate of ugali and some roasted maize and fled after noticing that the old man had then collapsed and died.
The villagers further claim that earlier in the year, the young man had threatened to kill his father to an extent that he dug a grave in the family compound where he would bury him.
A while police commander Robert Makau indicated that police have launched a manhunt, many are still wondering why the neighbors did not take action when they noticed that there was a problem from the start.
“We are doing everything to bring the suspect to book because of the heinous act he has committed,” said the police boss.
The suspect’s brother Mr Abraham Wakukha said he was shocked by the manner in which his brother carried out the brutal attack on his father.
Wakhukha says when he got home, he found his father lying in a pool of blood with a large wound on his head.
“Our brother has been engaging in suspicious activities lately including stealing items belonging to our neighbours,” said Mr Wakukha.
Shinyalu deputy Sub-County commissioner Mr Mofat Moseti visited the scene and helped coordinate the transportation of the body to the County General and Referral Hospital mortuary.
